Britain has decided to stop generating electricity from coal power plants after 142 years of producing power from fossil fuels.

UK Power Minister Michael Shenk stated that the country's last coal power station at Ratcliffe shut down its operations on Monday. With this important decision, the UK has crossed a significant milestone in its commitment to tackling climate change.

He added that coal was the most dangerous fossil fuel, producing the highest amount of greenhouse gases. The UK was the first country to generate electricity from coal, and now, it will become the first country in the world to cease electricity production from coal.

It's worth noting that the world's first coal power station was established in London by the renowned inventor Thomas Edison in 1882. After that, until the 20th century, 100% of Britain's electricity was generated from coal.

From the 1990s onward, gas began to replace coal in electricity generation, but coal power remained significant, as even in 2012, 39% of the UK's electricity was still produced by coal power stations...
